Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT)
You are receiving this email because your Safeguarding Youth Training expired 05/31/2026.
As you are aware, to register as an adult leader, it is mandatory that you have current Safeguarding Youth Training. Your SYT has expired, and it is required to continue as a leader with Scouting America.
As of 05/15/2025, a NEW training has been implemented, "Safeguarding Youth Training" SYT. This course replaced the old YPT course and must be renewed yearly. Once you complete the SYT 90-minute training, the next year you will take the 20-minute refresher course, or you may have to repeat the 90-minute course.
The Youth Protection Training moved to a yearly course with the new training course on 05/15/2025, Safeguarding Youth Training. Any training completions taken before 05/15/2025 under the old 2-year course were moved to expire on 05/31/2026. Nationwide, everyone needs to complete the new course by 05/31/26.
Anyone who has a 05/31/2026 expiration date will take the new 90-minute course now and then the 20-minute refresher in 2027. You must take the new 90-minute SYT to qualify to take the refresher course the following year.
Anyone who took the course or renewed after the implementation in May 2025 will take the refresher on their yearly date. If you took the new SYT in June 2025 for example, you would take the refresher course in June 2026 because it is a yearly course now
New Guidelines from National:
1. Someone who took the old YPT and never took the 90-minute SYT course - They will take the full 90-minute SYT course. Emailed recipients will complete this option.
2. Someone who took the full 90-minute course - They will take the 20-minute SYT refresher the following year.. You will have 30 days to complete, after which you will need to take the 90-minute course again.
Please go to your my.scouting account and update your SYT training within the next 10 days. Your registration as an adult leader could be suspended until the training is completed.

Please send me a copy of your SYT certificate when you are finished.
