In San Antonio today, nearly two hundred wounded, ill, and injured veterans are competing in the 2026 Warrior Games. And—as an Army vet—I’m proud to tell you that on the very first day, Team Army brought home eight medals in powerlifting!
Of course, the medal isn’t the point—it’s the road back: the training, the teammates, the families, and the proof that recovery is something you practice alongside a team, not alone.
I know that road well, and I know how important adaptive sports are for America’s warriors to get their lives back. It’s why I sponsored the GAMES Act.
The GAMES Act strikes an outdated restriction for Warrior Games participation. The old rule said medically retired veterans were only eligible to compete if they were within one year of leaving the service, cutting off thousands of wounded warriors from a program designed to help them. Every wounded warrior, not just those who are ready within a narrow window of time, should have the chance to compete.
The men and women in San Antonio this week are showing our nation what perseverance looks like. Go Army!
