FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 1, 2025

Stuart, FL The Martin County School District is proud to announce that longtime transportation professional Evonne Eicher has been named the 2024–2025 Florida School Bus Driver of the Year, a prestigious honor presented by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in partnership with the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Missing Children’s Day Foundation.

The surprise announcement was made this morning during the District’s annual back-to-school transportation kickoff event at Martin County High School, where all school bus drivers gathered to prepare for the start of the new school year on August 11.

Ms. Eicher, who was previously recognized as the Martin County School District’s Bus Driver of the Year, was celebrated by Superintendent Michael Maine, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Tracey Miller, and Transportation Director Ruth Spires in front of her peers.

“Evonne deeply cares for every student she transports, treating each one with kindness and respect,” said Superintendent Maine. “She goes above and beyond to ensure every student feels safe, seen, and supported. She fosters a nurturing environment and treats her students as if they were her own.”

Superintendent Maine went on to highlight that Ms. Eicher’s recognition at the state level was based on her exceptional and extraordinary actions that contributed to preventing a child abduction or recovering a student from imminent danger; the criteria for the Florida Missing Children’s Day Bus Driver of the Year award.

“We believe we have the best school bus drivers in Florida and this proves it,” Superintendent Maine said. “Evonne exemplifies what it means to be a Martin County bus driver: compassionate, vigilant, and committed to keeping our students safe.”

Ms. Eicher will be formally honored during a statewide ceremony on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Tallahassee Automobile Museum as part of Florida Missing Children’s Day. She will represent the Martin County School District during the formal awards ceremony and accompanying events alongside school resource officers and education leaders from across the state.
